Three-time Asian champion Shiva Keshavan has reached Pyeongchang in South Asia to participate in Winter Olympics starting from February 9. The only luger from the country, Keshavan is confident of bringing home the first Winter Olympic medal of the country.Keshavan has defended his Asian champion title in Germany in December last year and is the fastest luger of Asia. He has an Asian speed record of 134.3kmph. He is extremely happy that the Ministry of Sports has funded him on time just before the Olympics.He trained in Innsbruck, Austria, and is in good form. He has worked hard on his physique and did not suffer any injury this season. He flew for Pyeongchang from Delhi and confirmed to have reached the Olympic village.Keshavan will undergo some trial runs on luge track before final races starting from February 10. Earlier, he had to search for sponsors to fund his tournaments but this time he is happy that government is helping him.Shiva Keshavan is the resident of Vashisht village near Manali. As the country has no luge track, he trained himself on steep roads of Manali by putting wheels on his sled. He had to visit several countries to get coaching from top trainers and spent a huge money on it.Residents of Manali are happy on his achievements and are sending him good wishes through social media. Villagers of Vashisht have decided to give him warm welcome after he returns from South Korea.Keshavan and cross-country skier Jagdish Singh are the only athletes who will represent the country in Winter Olympics.
